5 Days of Christmas-Day 1: Visiting the Holiday Light Display on Jeater Bend in Celebration

visiting-holiday-light-display-jeater-bend-celebration Merry Christmas! I’ve had to modify the challenge given to me by another blogger – it’s now a 5 Days of Christmas challenge. So every day for the next 5 days I will be posting Disney related crafts and activities until we hit the big day.

Today is Day One. Let’s get started!

Day One – Holiday Lights On Jeater Bend Drive

With the expansions going on in Hollywood Studios the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights was retired. Many people have wonderful memories of the holiday light displays in the Streets of America. I’ve heard more than a few people wonder where they can see such a display like that.

The lighted Mickey Mouse in the photo dances and the faces sing. Photo courtesy of briancrawford.com because his photos turned out better than mine. 🙂

If you’re looking for a fantastic display of lights, music and holiday cheer, I recommend you take an hour or two away from the parks and visit the holiday light display on Jeater Bend Drive in Celebration Florida.

You may have caught an episode of the Great Christmas Light Fight. A quick run-down if you haven’t. On the Great Christmas Light Fight you see families compete against each other for the best holiday lights. A few years ago they had an episode where neighborhoods competed against each other. Jeater Bend Drive was one of these neighborhoods, and let me tell you it was impressive (even in the early evening).

The holiday lights actually go up before Halloween. Many of the lights are LED, so they can change colors. The first display is Halloween themed, and then as soon as Celebration allows it, they switch to December holidays.

I’ve personally met the man who started it as well as one of the families whose teenage boys have been an integral part of set up. They were very kind and took a lot of pride in their fantastic display.

When I asked one resident why they put up so much effort each year, she responded, “We do it because we love watching how happy it makes other people.” Definitely the spirit of giving.

The holiday display is truly impressive. Fire, water, projections, “snow”, singing and dancing displays and music all combine to make a delightful place to visit.

I like to walk the display, and I highly recommend you take it in that way. Walking allows you to look for the little nuances. One family always has a cat in their display like the Osborne Light Spectacle had one in theirs. I challenge you to see if you can spot it. You can park on Celebration Avenue and walk to Jeater Bend if you’d like to take in the lights via walking.

You can drive down the street and through the display too. Keep in mind on busy nights the street turns into a one-way street and you’ll need to keep moving, so you may not catch everything.

When to See:

The lights on Jeater Bend run from 6-10pm. Donations support the homeless and hungry through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Check out their Facebook page for special events like the Christmas train, Santa visits and more.

Good luck and see you in the parks!
