I Travel to Disney with Five Special Needs Children, and I Want to Help You Do It Too

My journey with Disney began before I was even born–when my parents spent their honeymoon at Disneyland.  I have many happy memories of visiting Disneyland as a child.

Fast forward to adulthood and becoming a mother–I wanted my own children to have as many happy memories of Disney as I did.  We live East of the Mississippi River, so Walt Disney World was more convenient to travel to.

Avoid the Disney Headache by Following My Advice

The first time I tried to plan a Walt Disney World Vacation I gave myself a “Disney headache”!  (There’s a lot to learn and know).

Since our first trip many years ago we’ve learned a lot–including the fact five of my six children have special needs.  My boys all have high-functioning Autism, and my youngest daughter has Sensory Processing Disorder and Generalized Anxiety.  This gives us added challenges in planning trips to Disney.

Despite our challenges, we’ve been able to have fantastic vacations!  In fact, my daughter finally started waving (at nearly 16 months old) when I was inspired to show her a video of a Magic Kingdom parade to prepare her for her first trip.  The photographer caught Mickey Mouse waving directly to the camera.  I told her, “Look! Mickey is waving at you.  Can you wave back?”  She did for the first time ever.

It was a breakthrough moment, but definitely not our only one.

I’ve Helped Families with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, Metabolic Diseases, Generalized Anxiety, Large Family Reunions, Senior Citizens, Pregnant Mamas, and Toddlers (their own special kind of challenge)

Since then I’ve helped so many families plan their trips to Disney World.  I especially love helping families with special needs and disabilities.  My goal here is to break down the essential information you need and help you plan a fantastic vacation for your own family, and if we’re lucky help you find magical moments where you have breakthroughs too.
